Propinquity Associates specializes in Knowledge Management and People Development. 

Before forming Propinquity Associates, Dennis Barnett worked for Champion International Corporation as a Director of Technology and Knowledge Transfer focusing in on Knowledge Management, Competitive Intelligence, Intellectual Property Management, Intellectual Capital Management, Idea Generation and other aspects of Organizational Development.

He served as a Vice President for the New York City Transit Authority managing their Quality, Testing and Inspection Functions. He also directed and managed laboratories for Champion International Corporation, The New York City Transit Authority and PepsiCo Incorporated. He began his technical work experience with the Union Carbide Corporation working in Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry.

He holds a Master of Science Degree from Fordham University in Analytical and Inorganic Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science Degree from Herbert H. Lehman College in Chemistry. He formerly served as a Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps.

On another note, Dennis was an Adjunct Professor at New York University teaching graduate courses relating to “Advance Topics in Knowledge Management” through the Information Technologies Institute. Additionally, Dennis is an Adjunct Professor at Clarkson University teaching “Operations Management and Factory Physics” as well as  teaching undergraduate courses at Marist College in “Organizational Leadership and Communication” and at the Culinary Institute of America teaching “Leadership and Ethics”, “Organizational Behavior”, “Introduction to Management” etceteras. Dennis has also served as the “Interim Associate Dean for Business Management” at the Culinary Institute.

Dennis has served on and chaired a number of corporate boards some have brought him increased involvement in the Orange County Community and within the Hudson River Valley. As Chairman of the Board and Managing Director (President) of the Orange County Capital Development Corporation he helped to cultivate a public-private partnership that supported entrepreneurs in building their businesses in Orange County. Recently, Dennis joined the board of Topical BioMedics Inc. as its chairman in the past few years.

His most recent publication is a book titled, “Knowledge is not Power nor is value Serendipitous, Using what you have to make your business profitable”.
